DealTaker and the Wal-Mart situation

Well, there was quite a hubbub yesterday as Wal-Mart picked up their big stick and did a little a little bit of speaking that wasn’t quite that soft.

For those that don’t know the background, the long and the short of it is, some sites got a hold of Wal-Mart’s Black Friday 2007 ad, and they expressed their displeasure and let sites, like DealTaker, know that they would frown on those who published the leaked material.

Here’s what Neal Rapoport had to say in the Dealtaker.com Black Friday 2007 forum:

First of all, No, we don’t have the Black Friday 2007 Wal-Mart ad.

Now that that’s out of the way, Yes, we got a letter from the Wal-mart lawyers about posting any illegally obtained Walmart Black Friday ads, which may leak over the next few weeks.

At DealTaker, we never encourage any type of theft. If you are under a non-disclosure from Wal-Mart, then certainly you should not be giving us the Wal-Mart ad.

If we get the ad anonymously and are unable to verify the origination, or if it comes from a legitimate source we will make the call whether to post or not at that time. If we choose not to release the information, we will be upfront and let everyone know exactly why at that time.

So for now, no, we don’t have their Black Friday ad, and when we get it, we’ll decide whether we can legally post it.

Just wanted you all to be aware of what the circus surrounding the Bentoville Behemoth was all about!

Supposedly, the possibility of a system priced at $400 is imminent.  That’s great news for all of us gamers who just couldn’t quite afford to spend the $600 it cost to get in on the PS3 in the first place.

How many DealTakers like to camp out for Black Friday?

To camp or not to camp, that’s often the question many bargain-hunters have to ask themselves when seeking out the great deals at the hottest stores on Black Friday.  There’s quite a discussion going on over at DealTaker’s Black Friday 2007 forum.

The majority of DT’s frugal ones seem to shy away from the camp out, preferring to just get there around 4 or 5 AM to begin their lining up. Some do admit though that they miss out on a few items because they didn’t.

What do you think? Is it worth it to camp out for the season’s greatest deals?

Black Friday 2007 discussion: Have you ever had to wrestle for an item?

There’s a reason that the word “Black” is in Black Friday, and it isn’t always about retailers and ledger sheets. Sometimes, the crowds get a little, well, let’s just say a little too excited.

That’s the discussion going on at the Black Friday 2007 forum at Dealtaker.com

Luckily, most people seem to have been able to avoid actual hand to hand combat over a hot item it seems, but a few people have had incidents.

DealTaker helps you choose the Places to shop the day before Black Friday 2007?

Of course, we all know that the big shopping day is Black Friday 2007, but are there any worthwhile deals actually on Thanksgiving Day?

In the past, some avid shoppers have found deals at places like Meijers, Wal-Mart or K-Mart, but they are usually for smaller items (Deals on sodas, CDs, DVDs, etc). Although almost everyone agrees that the best deals are out there on Black Friday, there are still some deals to be have.

But, for the power shopper, the biggest benefit from doing some shopping on Thanksgiving Day is to do some price comparison. This can help you get a jump on the rest of the crowds an refine your shopping strategy.
